A Little About Me

Hi, I’m Claudia Dunn, a part time artist based in the Waikato, New Zealand. Art has always been my creative outlet and is a life long passion. Alongside this, I work full time in the primary sector as a data analyst. I am also studying a certificate in animal care and behaviour part time, keeping future opportunities open.
Creating has been part of life for as long as I can remember, but it became especially important around the age of 13, when it helped navigate some difficult times. It gives me a chance to slow down, clear some of the chaos in my head, and recharge. Hopefully, it also offers others a moment to pause and maybe sparks a little creativity of their own.
Most of my learning has been self-taught, aside from my high school art class when I was 13-15. A lot of my joy in creating comes from experimenting with different mediums and techniques so you’ll find I rarely stick to one style, although I will likely return often.
Nature and animals are a constant source of my inspiration, bringing a sense of peace and calm that often finds its way into my work. Colours play a central role, with the concept of most pieces beginning from a palette that feels soothing and peaceful. The goal is always to reflect this calmness through my art and bring a similar feeling to others.
My workspace is a small cabin built by my dad, situated in a small garden with my silkie chickens and a pond that attracts wild frogs. It’s a space where I paint, sew, and create a variety of other things.
When time allows alongside my full time job and study, you may catch me at the occasional market. Apart from those markets, at this stage, my artwork is only available for purchase on my website. I also offer commissions, however I do have limited availability.
I’m excited for where The Unbound Studio is heading and for the space it gives me to create freely and stay true to myself. Thank you for being here — it really does mean a lot. I hope you’ll stick around.
